Laser hair removal is a very safe and highly efficient way to remove unwanted hair from any part of the body. Treatments are usually given at intervals of 4-6 weeks, resulting in smooth, silky and hair-free skin. Results generally require an average of 6-8 treatments for each patient.

Hair grows in 3 cycles: Active, dormant and shedding stage. The laser works by emitting a pulsed light that is passed through the skin and absorbed by the pigment (dark color) in the hair. By absorbing this laser energy, the hair follicles become disabled, permanently impairing their ability to grow.

Dark Skin and Laser Hair Removal

Unlike other laser clinics, Danik MedSpa can offer laser hair removal to anyone, including individuals with dark skin complexion. The reason why lasers are effective is because of the skin’s ability to absorb light. However, when skin is especially dark (Type V and VI), the concentrated amount of melanin tends to absorb more light than average, increasing the chance of burning, blistering or skin discoloration. Danik clinician would customize a treatment protocol based on your specific needs. Results may vary.

FAQ’S - Laser Hair Removal

How does the treatment work?
The area to be treated is cleansed and shaved. A topical numbing cream may be applied to reduce discomfort. The treatment area is scanned with the laser, which emits a specific wavelength that is absorbed into the hair follicle. The follicle is heated and damaged, putting an end to hair growth.

How many treatments are required?
Hair growth can only be affected during the growth cycle. Several sessions are required to destroy all hair follicles.

Is Laser Hair Reduction safe?
Laser Hair Reduction is a common, quick and safe procedure. A variety of lasers have been FDA approved for hair reduction. Are there any possible side effects?
You may experience stinging, mild swelling and redness immediately after treatment. These effects are temporary, as are the rare appearance of blisters.

Will there be any downtime?
No, you may return to your normal routine immediately.

How do I prepare for my treatment?
• Your medical history. Your doctor asks questions about conditions you have or have had, as well as any medications you're taking.

• Photographs. Photographs are taken from different angles of the area to be treated. Your doctor uses these photos for before-and-after assessments and long-term reviews.
• A discussion of risks, benefits and expectations. During your consultation, the risks and benefits of this procedure will be discussed. We’ll explain what laser hair reduction can and can't do for you and what your results might be.

What should I expect during my treatment?
During the procedure, you wear goggles to prevent exposure of your eyes to laser light. When the laser is activated, you may feel a stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snap. A topical local anesthetic is applied before the procedure to reduce discomfort. The procedure causes a slight charring of stubble. You may notice a strong odor of singed hair, which is normal.

What should I expect after the treatment?
You may notice some redness and swelling for the first few hours. Also, stinging may occur for the first 24 to 48 hours. Some people experience a slight scabbing of the skin. If scabbing occurs, keep the area moist with a petroleum-based topical antibiotic.
• Avoid exercise and exertion for the first 24 hours. Perspiration from exertion may increase irritation caused by the laser.
• Avoid exposure to the sun for several weeks after treatment. After this period, make sure you apply sunscreen whenever you're in the sun. Avoid tanning booths — the ultraviolet light damages the skin.
• Don't wax or pluck hairs between treatments.
• Don't pick at or manipulate the skin in treated areas.
• Don't rub or scrub the treated area. You may gently wash the area with soap and water.
