The Restylane family of dermal fillers includes Restylane®, Restylane® Silk, and Perlane®. These pliable gel fillers are injected under the skin’s surface, thereby adding fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles, folds, and loss of volume in the cheeks and lips. Each is a hyaluronic acid filler individually formulated to correct signs of aging in different areas of the face.
Restylane is a clear gel that is highly malleable for filling in facial lines and wrinkles. The treatment is designed to add youthful volume to the face and lips while diminishing the appearance of folds, creases and sagging, particularly around the area of the nose, mouth, and chin. Restylane is also used to correct hollows under the eyes. Because Restylane can be molded so easily, it delivers a very smooth, natural-looking fullness.
Perlane, which is injected more deeply below the skin’s surface, is primarily used in the area of the mid and lower face where deep creases and skin laxity make the face look old and tired. Like Restylane, Perlane works by filling in and plumping skin. This filler’s large-particle formulation makes it particularly effective for treating hollowed cheeks as well as the folds running from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), and the lines running from either side of the mouth down the chin (marionette lines).
Restylane Silk is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler specifically designed to enhance and shape the lips while smoothing out the wrinkles and lines around the mouth that come with aging. Like other Restylane products, Silk is a clear gel made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. Silk, however, is formulated with smaller, smoother particles in order to provide precise lip shaping and line control, resulting in plump yet natural-looking lips with a beautifully defined cupid’s bow.

After your injections, you may experience some pain, redness, swelling, itching ,or discoloration at the injection site. These side effects are normal and should subside within two days.
To maintain Perlane results, typically a patient will require follow-up injections every 6 – 12 months; however, patients usually need less Perlane when undergoing maintenance treatments.
Perlane treatments typically last for 6 – 9 months; however, this length of time varies based on such factors as skin structure, skin condition, age, and lifestyle.
You’ll see results immediately, but wait till any swelling, redness or bruising dissipates before assessing your final appearance.
Perlane is injected using an ultra-fine needle. The injections are not painful to most,but if you are very sensitive to injections, tell your medical professional would like a topical anesthetic.
