Breast Lift

Restore shape, firmness, and youthful uplift.

Overview

Breast Lift

Loss of skin elasticity, breast feeding, aging, and gravity together will cause a woman’s breasts to lose their shape, firmness, and uplift. According to a common cosmetic surgery rule of thumb, if you put a pencil under your breast and it stays there, you need a breast lift to achieve a more youthful and fit body profile. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia in a hospital on an outpatient basis. The protocol involves the lifting and removal of lax, excess skin followed by the repositioning of the nipple higher on the chest wall.

Benefits

  • Firmer, higher, and more youthful-looking breasts
  • Improved breast shape, with rounded rather than elongated contour.
  • Correction of breast asymmetry.
  • More fit-looking and well-balanced silhouette.
  • Increased comfort and improved posture.
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem.

Breast Lift Treatment Plan

This outpatient surgery may take anywhere from 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 hours. The technique involves making one incision around the nipple areola, a second incision from the areola to the fold below the breast, and a third incision horizontally along the curve underneath the breast. Next the excess, flaccid breast skin is removed and the remaining breast tissue is lifted to the proper location. At this point, the nipple areola is shifted to a higher position on the breast so that the outward-facing nipple line is restored. If a patient chooses to get implants in conjunction with her breast lift, the surgeon will insert them now and then close and bandage the breasts. The surgeon may also insert tiny drains for 24-48 hours.

As a patient, one or two days after the procedure, you’ll be scheduled for a follow-up appointment, at which time your surgeon will remove the bandages and any drains. Your doctor will also check the color of your nipples to make sure they are getting a sufficient supply of blood for proper healing.  After surgery, patients are required to wear a surgical bra to hold the lifted breasts in their proper position. There will be swelling and bruising, as well as enough discomfort to call for pain medication, which the doctor will prescribe. After a few days, the surgical bra will be replaced by a support bra, and within two weeks the stitches will be removed. Nevertheless, there will be some scars, which will fade with the passage of time. Breast Lift patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 4 weeks. Note: When a patient’s nipples are fully healed, they will NOT lose any of their sensitivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Breast Lift surgery?

It is a surgical procedure whereby lax, drooping breasts are lifted and excess skin is removed to restore firmness and a youthful, uplifted positioning.

Who is a good candidate for Breast Lift surgery?

This surgery is recommended to any woman unhappy with her lax and drooping breasts. However, it is worth noting that the procedure produces the best results and the longest-lasting uplift in cases where the breasts are smaller rather than overly large and pendulous. Such women should consider having Breast Reduction surgery, also known as Reduction Mammaplasty.

What are the benefits of Breast Lift surgery?

This procedure leaves sagging breasts firmer and higher for a more youthful, fitter-looking silhouette that restores confidence and a positive body image.

How long do the results of a Breast Lift last?

Age and overall health impact the longevity of the results. Younger women will see longer-lasting results than women of more advanced years, as a younger woman’s skin is more resilient, while an older woman’s skin is less elastic and therefore less able to withstand the effects of ongoing aging and the pull of gravity. Still, despite the fact that time and aging march on, newly lifted breasts will retain their improved shape, firmness and uplift for several years unless impacted by childbirth or significant weight loss or weight gain.

Will a Breast Lift increase the size of my breasts?

No. To enhance the size of your breasts, you’ll need to undergo Breast Augmentation surgery, which includes the placement of saline or silicone implants to increase the volume and fullness of breasts. This can be a stand-alone procedure, or it can be performed in conjunction with Breast Lift surgery.
